Pilanesberg Safari
Explore the Big Five in one of South Africa’s most unique reserves
A day safari in the Pilanesberg National Park offers the chance to see almost all of South Africa’s iconic wildlife – from elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and cheetahs to giraffes, zebras, hippos, wildebeest, warthogs, and antelopes of every size.
The park is a natural closed ecosystem set in the crater of an extinct volcano that formed around 1.3 billion years ago. Covering 55,000 hectares with a diameter of 25 km, it was once higher than Kilimanjaro, with an original height of nearly 8 km. Today, Pilanesberg offers a breathtaking variety of landscapes, with surprises waiting around every corner.
Compared to Kruger, Pilanesberg has a higher concentration of animals per square kilometer, which means your chances of spotting wildlife are even better. On many days it is possible to see nearly all of the Big Five within just a single safari.
We recently discovered a fantastic new accommodation – the OKT Luxury Tented Camp, located just outside the park. From now on, we include one night before and one night after the safari at this camp. Guests enjoy comfortable tented suites with breakfast and dinner included, making the experience both relaxing and immersive. Because the safari is a full-day excursion, staying at OKT Camp ensures you can unwind before and after the adventure.
In the past, it was possible to have a traditional braai (barbecue) inside the park, but for conservation reasons this is no longer allowed. Instead, we provide a delicious picnic box and fresh coffee, which can be enjoyed at one of the many safe rest areas with picnic spots, modern toilets, and secure electrified fencing.
Traveling in our VW Bus or Amarok Pickup, you’ll enjoy excellent photo opportunities from the elevated seats – the perfect way to experience Pilanesberg’s rich wildlife and scenery.
